Defaults and No Shows
Defaults
A default occurs when a team does not respond to their opponent's phone calls by Wednesday of the scheduled week of play; or is unavailable for any reason to play the match during the scheduled week of play and does not have a remaining Late Pass to use in order to play the match late.
The team taking the default may report a default and receive 12 points by the appropriate "Due" date. Go to "Report Scores" on the main menu and select the option "I am defaulting my opponent and want to receive 12 points.
Once a default has been reported, the team reporting the default may choose to waive the default penalty and play their opponent if desired (within the allowed time). Simply re-report the match score.
Please report unresponsive teams to Customer Service. Teams that receives 3 unexcused defaults will be suspended from the league.
No Shows
A team is considered a "No Show" if they are more than 20 minutes late to a match.
The waiting team may:
- Wait for the opponent. We consider this the best option if the team is not excessively late. Traffic and other considerations should be taken into account. If a team agrees to wait and play the match, the match will stand as played. If teams agree to reschedule the match for a later time, the match must be played.
- Report a default and receive 12 points.
Ultimate Tennis is about playing tennis. We want matches determined on the court whenever possible. To avoid misunderstandings that can lead to unnecessary no shows, teams should:
- Keep cell phones near and turned on.
- Have the opposing team's contact numbers on hand.
- Designate a meeting place at the facility. (many times both players are at the facility just in different locations)
- Call the opposing team immediately if running late and provide a time frame your team will arrive as long as it is not excessive beyond the 20 minute rule.
